How to read these results

  • A county or district stays white until its first votes are in, then takes its leader’s color. Mail and early votes are counted first, so early in the night a place can look far bluer or redder than it will end up. Until its early and mail votes and half its precincts are in, or the leader is ahead by more than the Election Day votes likely still out, its race says it’s too early to say.
  • “Likely still out” is simple arithmetic, not a forecast: the Election Day votes counted so far, per precinct in, times the precincts left. It leaves out provisional and late mail ballots.
  • Darker means a bigger lead: under 5 points, 5 to 15, 15 to 30, 30 and up. Switch the map to Counted to see how much of each place is in.
  • This page shows who is ahead in the count, never who has won. We don't call races.
