About this map
Each county is colored by whether it has more Bojangles or more Chick-fil-A restaurants. Bojangles, which opened its first restaurant in Charlotte in 19772, has 352 in North Carolina, 40% of its 8833. Chick-fil-A has 201 here1.
Bojangles has more in 71 counties, Mecklenburg among them, 37 to 31. Chick-fil-A has more in two: Wake, 30 to 28, and Orange. Twelve counties are tied.
Fifteen counties are dry, with no Bojangles or Chick-fil-A: Alleghany, Camden, Chowan, Clay, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Graham, Hyde, Jones, Mitchell, Northampton, Perquimans, Tyrrell and Warren. Eight of them have none of four other chains I counted either, Hardee’s, Waffle House, Cook Out and Biscuitville: Alleghany, Chowan, Clay, Gates, Graham, Hyde, Mitchell and Tyrrell. The legend lets you match up any two of the six chains, and the second view shows which of the six has the most restaurants in each county.
The restaurants are each chain’s own store locator, as gathered by All The Places on Oct 10, 20261. I checked every one against the locators on Oct 19, 2026, and added a Bojangles in Cameron that the scrape had missed. Restaurants listed as temporarily closed are counted; ones listed as coming soon are not. I placed each one in its county by its location on the map.
